Marketing is time intensive, isn't it? You have to think and
plan, do the writing, look after your website and send out
your marketing materials. And that's just for starters!
How do other small businesses get their marketing done?
Well, for them, marketing is a core activity, not just a
'nice to have'.
They focus on marketing and make their enterprise marketing
centric. They schedule time to do their marketing, every
week. In addition, they spend time learning professional
marketing skills (by reading, attending seminars, talking
to experts etc).
In other words - they are good at time management. They
organise their busy schedules to include key marketing
tasks. As a result, whatever is happening in the economy,
customers keep arriving at their doorstep.
All the best

How to make your business stand out from the crowd
Here are some tips on how to make your business stand out in a crowded marketplace.
1. Ask your customers what they want from you, on a regular basis.
2. Be consistent in your branding.
3. Educate prospective customers about your products / services. You can do this by offering them helpful, useful and interesting information. For example, create buyer's guides, dos and don'ts lists and tips and hints lists.
4. Research the competition. Find out about their products / services, what their key messages are and how they position themselves.
5. What could you offer that they don't?
6. Brainstorm this.
7. Could you offer (for example): faster delivery, better service, enhanced guarantees, flexible financial terms, more convenience, additional services?
Differentiation is one of the key aspects of marketing strategy that we discuss within my marketing mastermind group, The Marketing Compass.
I wish you all the best with your marketing!

Use meta tags to boost your search engine results
Meta tags are added to the HTML of a website to boost search engine rankings. They are not guaranteed to gain you a top ranking. However, they can certainly help to give you some control over how your web pages are listed.
Just to complicate things, Title Tags are not technically meta tags (but you don't really want to get into semantics, do you?!)
Title tags:
NB: Google pays attention to these tags!
Title tags refer to the contents of the page. If you look at the screen in front of you, you should see the Title Tag for this page, in the blue band in the very upper left hand corner of the screen. You will get better results if you have different title tags for different pages.
Description tags:
Gives a concise description of the page, within a Search Engine results page. (Unlike the random wording often found on these pages).
Keyword tags:
Some search engines go through your site and save Keywords in their database. Using keyword meta tags should help to boost your page a bit higher, when those particular words are searched.
Search engine optimisation is something I teach to members of my marketing mastermind group The Marketing Compass. Click here to read all about it.

The first three stages to building an effective website
Stage 1: Know your DESTINATION
* Write down your objectives for your website
Stage 2: Define your market SEGMENTS
* A market segment = a group of people with shared needs.
* Define who you are communicating with.
Stage 3: DESIGN YOUR WEBSITE
Think of your website as your 'marketing hub'. Your website should:
* Encourage customers to subscribe to your newsletter
* Have information about events (i.e. exhibitions, seminars, open days)
* Be media friendly
Good website design is based on clear thinking. All too often, websites are confusing for first time visitors.
See your design from the customer's perspective - will they feel comfortable? Can they easily find what they want? The guiding principle of website design is clarity.
My services include internet marketing strategy and website orchestration.
There are 4 more stages which I will share with you next time!

10 rules of internet marketing
A website alone is not the answer. If you want to create significant revenue, think in terms of an integrated internet marketing strategy.
Rule 1
Decide what your business objectives are for your internet marketing. Quantify this. Keep focused on your objectives.
Rule 2
Ask your target market what they would like to see within your website / newsletter / blog.
Rule 3
Test Test Test. This is the way to discover what people really think.
Rule 4
As a mass communication medium, the internet is unique because it is interactive. How interactive is your internet marketing?
Rule 5
Create e-relationships. ("Relationships first, business second").
Rule 6
Choose your promotional techniques with care. (Free / low cost techniques can work the best).
Rule 7
Integrate your internet marketing with your promotional mix.
Rule 8
Keep everything simple. Don't use technology for the sake of it.
Rule 9
Content is everything. Have useful, helpful content.
Rule 10
Measure your results.
I have helped numerous companies to improve their internet marketing performance. If you would like to discuss my consultancy services, by all means get in touch.
